The charity
Miscarriage can be a very unhappy, frightening and lonely experience. The Miscarriage Association acknowledges the distress associated with pregnancy loss and strives to make a positive difference to those it affects.
We have the knowledge to help.
Our background and aims
The Miscarriage Association was founded in 1982 by a group of people who had experienced miscarriage. They felt strongly that someone needed to provide the support and information which they had found lacking in their medical care, and so they set up a new charity.
More than 40 years later, the Miscarriage Association has grown and developed in many ways, but we still pursue those founding aims:
- offering support and information to anyone affected by the loss of a baby in pregnancy
- raising awareness of miscarriage and
- promoting good practice in medical care.
Our legal status
The Miscarriage Association is a national charity, registered in England and Wales (no. 1076829) and in Scotland (no. SC039790). It is also a company limited by guarantee (no. 3779123), registered in England and Wales. In practice, we cover the whole of the UK and beyond.
Fees and charges
We want to make our services available to anyone who needs them. So we offer our telephone and online support and information services free of charge to individuals, whoever and wherever they are.
There is a membership fee for those who would like to join our charity and support our work, though we never refuse membership to someone who can’t afford to pay. We do charge for our workplace training, and the profits from this and our promotional items such as greetings cards, pin badges and candles help to cover the costs of providing our services.
