The Great North Run
The Great North Run is the biggest Half Marathon event in the world, with over 60,000 runners participating in this must-do event. Starting in Newcastle upon Tyne, runners pass over the iconic Tyne Bridge (with a flypast by the Red Arrows) and on to the finish line some 13.1 miles later in the coastal town of South Shields. This is one of the few UK running events to be shown on the BBC, and so gives us an amazing opportunity to highlight our services and the support we can offer.
There are generally two ways in which you can apply for a place:
Via the public ballot
The public ballot is always hugely oversubscribed, and public applications are made via a web link which generally opens early in the new year, and closes mid February. The ballot for 2024 was via this page: https://www.letsdothis.com/gb/e/aj-bell-great-north-run-2024-193976
With a charity place
The M.A was delighted to be awarded 35 charity bond places for 2024. We received more than twice the number of applications than we had places available and our 2024 team is now full. Our team were given a minimum pledge amount of £375, and paid a £25 registration fee. If you are interested in applying for a place in 2025 then please watch this space for further information later in the autumn!
If you are fortunate enough to get a place through the ballot, or you have a Good for Age, Celebrity or any other place, we’d be delighted to welcome you to join Team M.A. You won’t have the pressure of meeting a specific target, but you will still be a hugely valued and much appreciated member of team M.A!
Please just get in touch with us at fundraising@miscarriageassociation.org.uk and we’ll introduce you to your fellow runners and help support you as you start your Great North Run journey.
