Trustees
Our Board of Trustees is responsible for planning, guiding and reviewing the work of the Miscarriage Association – the services we provide, the way we are run and the way we raise and spend our funds.
Our Trustees, all volunteers, come from all walks of life and bring a diverse range of skills from charity governance and law to marketing and finance. We also have board members who are health professionals with direct experience of caring for those affected by pregnancy loss.
Meet the Board of Trustees
Amy Braier – Chair
I joined the Miscarriage Association Board of Trustees in 2019 and have been Chair since 2021. In my professional life, I am the Director of the Pears Foundation (one of the UK’s leading family philanthropic foundations), a role I have held for almost two decades. I am an experienced Trustee and have have extensive experience of working in the charity sector; advising charities on governance in my professional role. I am deeply passionate about the potential of civil society and have worked with organisations and chief executives across the voluntary sector from grass-roots start-ups to universities and large charities, building strong relationships and helping them to make a real impact.
I started in my career in policy and public affairs with roles at the Antisemitism Policy Trust and the Greater London Authority.
I experienced three life-changing miscarriages between the births of my two children and was shocked and humbled by how they affected me. I was lucky to receive good mental health support and I am passionate about ensuring everyone affected by pregnancy loss gets the care and support they need.
Miscarriage is so common and yet so little spoken about. The MA is a vital source of information and support that is both accurate and empathetic and I am proud to be a trustee. You can read more about my personal story here.
Natasha Necati – Vice Chair
I am a business consultant with over 17 years of experience. My involvement with the Miscarriage Association stems from my own journey through multiple pregnancy losses, including one at 19 weeks.
I joined the MA board in 2018 to support others facing similar challenges, believing that the charity’s work is essential in offering guidance and comfort. As Vice Chair, I focus on sharing my experience, advocating for diversity awareness, and driving impactful initiatives to broaden our reach.
In my professional consultancy work, I specialise in eCommerce, where I help businesses establish a strong foundation for sustainable growth. My approach is rooted in the fundamentals of scaling, recognising the unique challenges entrepreneurs encounter. I take pride in working alongside business owners to bridge the gaps, enabling them to thrive in a competitive landscape. I also frequently speak at events, sharing insights and encouraging best practices across the industry.
Outside of work, I value time with my husband and son and enjoy volunteering at my local church, reflecting my commitment to both family and community.
Teresa Owen – Treasurer
Having qualified as a Chartered Accountant with KPMG, I quickly moved into industry and took on commercial roles for FTSE 100 organisations such as Euromoney PLC, part of the Daily Mail Group and United News & Media. United News & Media sponsored me through an MBA at London Business School. Since then, I have successfully run businesses, the latest being MA Group where I am Finance and Strategy Director and a shareholder of this fast-growing group that manages property claims on behalf of insurers.
I joined the Miscarriage Association as Treasurer in 2023. I had been looking for trustee role for a little while as I was keen to do something in the charity sector. When I saw the role for trustee of the MA, I was immediately attracted to it because of my own poor experience of miscarriage a few years ago.
I feel lucky that I have had only one miscarriage. That was hard enough to deal with, so I feel real sympathy for those who deal with multiple miscarriages and fertility issues. The incredible support that the MA provides to people affected in this way is amazing and invaluable to those people, and I feel privileged to be involved with such a great charity.
Beena Lad
I am an experienced legal professional having qualified as a solicitor in 2009, specialising in litigation, dispute resolution and regulatory work. Starting out, I worked in law firms but have predominantly held in house roles, at EE/BT plc, and more recently at the Competition and Markets Authority (the CMA). My work at these organisations focussed on litigation/dispute resolution. I currently work at Ofcom as a Senior Associate within their legal team, focussing mainly on the legal aspects of online safety as well as litigation.
I was inspired to join the MA in 2017 after my husband and I experienced losses prior to having our son. The MA, through the services it offers, helped me and provided unwavering support and vital information during what were extremely sad and difficult times. I wanted to give something back by making valued contributions to the charity. It is a privilege and honour to serve on the Board. The MA is, and continues to be, an inspiration to me and many others who have or are experiencing pregnancy loss in whatever form.
Sarah Bailey
I have extensive clinical experience working as a nurse, midwife and health visitor within the NHS, mainly within the arena of women’s health.
In my current role, I am a consultant nurse in Southampton, where I coordinate the care of those with recurrent miscarriage. I am also a health researcher, and my research has investigated the development of supportive paradigms of care for those who have experienced recurrent miscarriage, focusing on improving their psychological well-being during the challenging early stages of a new pregnancy.
I successfully completed my PhD in 2017 and joined the MA’s board of trustees in 2018.
I understand that pregnancy loss can be an extremely upsetting and lonely time and I feel a deep commitment to ensuring that the necessary support and information is available to all who need it.
Laura English-Rose
A fundraising professional for ten years, I have insight into a broad range of income generation techniques, and experience across community and regional fundraising, corporate fundraising, events, digital campaigns, legacy and in memory fundraising, faith-based fundraising, and individual giving.
In my current role as Community Lead at Action for Children, I manage a team of fundraising managers, and lead on community fundraising, volunteering, fundraising groups and high value events. I have a particular passion for high quality supporter and volunteer experiences, and developing mutually beneficial relationships between charities and supporters.
I joined the board of trustees in 2024 and I am excited to share my experience and skills with the Miscarriage Association, a charity that is incredibly close to my heart and whose support services I have both used myself and recommended to others.
I strongly believe that everyone who experiences pregnancy loss should have access to support that works for them, and I hope to be able to contribute in a small way to the amazing work that the MA does.
Jane Harris
I have worked in the charity sector for two decades in a mix of mental health, disability and inequality organisations.
I had a miscarriage myself at 7 weeks and it was the most devastating experience of my life. I had at that point survived my husband almost dying and being hospitalised for a year following a very rare form of stroke. I was very surprised about how profoundly miscarriage affected me and how difficult it was for others to understand.
It put a huge strain on a number of relationships including a relative who subsequently became pregannt – I could not bear to see her for many months (in fact until I was then pregnant again) and i felt I was stigmatised because of this choice.
I felt inspired to join the board in 2024 because I felt I knew something (not everything) about many of the areas where the MA is active (information provision, peer support, public affairs, marketing and communications) and I wanted to use that knowledge to help others.
I went to an MA support group about four months after I had a miscarriage and it was a life changing experience to finally be with people who understood. I felt all of human experience was in that room and listening to others was one of the most profound experiences in my life.
Ola Obaro
I am currently the Head of Strategic Projects at World Rugby, the global governing body for the sport of rugby union. Prior to this I worked in government for the Department for Culture, Media and Sport and I’ve held a range of positions in strategy and marketing across a number of industries throughout my career.
My wife and I experienced three losses before we had our daughter and then we experienced a further loss before having our son. The MA was a consistent source of information, support and encouragement and, as a family, we were committed to doing whatever we can to contribute to the amazing work that the organisation does.
We know the role it played during our journey so we’re keen to ensure that as many people as possible seek out the MA during their potential time of need. I joined the board in 2020.
Kat Hattersley Greenish
I have worked in fundraising for 15 years. I began in the Arts, working for leading symphony orchestras and an opera company. These roles gave me a grounding in individual giving, trust and foundations, corporate partnerships and event fundraising. For the past 8 years I have had the privilege of specialising in philanthropic giving for medical research. I am now Head of Development for the Faculty of Medicine at Imperial College London, and previously held roles at Cancer Research UK and Parkinson’s UK.
My journey with the Miscarriage Association began in 2021, when I had my first ectopic pregnancy. I was rushed into hospital during lockdown and while I was alone and scared waiting to have emergency surgery I turned to the MA’s website for the vital information I needed to understand what was happening to me.
The MA has helped me and so many other women through some really dark times in their lives by providing resources, one-to-one assistance and their fantastic network of online and in-person peer support groups.
I am really grateful for everything the charity has done for me, and I am proud to be able to support other women like me through bringing my experience to the Board, which I joined in 2024.
Alison Hylton-Potts
I am a registered midwife in a south London NHS Trust working in the community antenatal and postnatal settings as well as supporting research delivery of clinical trials within our research team. As a midwife, I interact regularly with women who have experienced, or are experiencing, miscarriage and I am passionate about ensuring high quality and compassionate care to all. I began my midwifery career in 2018 following a career change from finance. As a Chartered Accountant I had a 15-year career with a range of finance leadership roles within large and small organisations. My skills include audit and statutory reporting, investor relations, commercial finance, commercial planning and analysis and pricing.
I am an experienced Trustee having held roles as an ordinary Trustee, Treasurer and Chair of Audit Committee over the last two decades. Offering my time, knowledge and expertise to trusteeships is a fulfilling and rewarding experience.
Miscarriage can be a devastating and life changing experience for women and I was inspired, in 2024, to join the Miscarriage Association board to be able to contribute to the support and advocacy for women during this time of need.
