Pregnancy loss cards

8th June 2021

It can be tough to find the words to express sympathy after a friend, family member or colleague has experienced a miscarriage. Often the most appropriate cards on offer are blank – which can still leave people lost for words.

So we’re pleased to let you know that we’ve teamed up with the Card Factory to offer what is believed to be the first sympathy card stocked by a major retailer, specifically for people affected by pregnancy loss.*

The new card carries the simple but sensitive message ‘There’s no good card for this. I’m so sorry for the loss of your baby’ in the handwriting of someone who has been through miscarriage herself.

It also has details of our free support and information services, along with our logo on the back of the card.

Pregnancy loss card – ‘There’s no good card for this; I’m so sorry for the loss of your baby’.

The card is now available at the Card Factory’s online shop and you can choose to have the card sent to you so you can write in it and post it or you can add a message online and have it sent directly to the recipient. A donation of 10% of the retail price of the card will be made to the M.A. for every card ordered.

The cards will also go into Card Factory’s stores within the next few months.

Angie O’Reilly, who has had two miscarriages, told us: “I think the miscarriage sympathy cards are a wonderful idea, and I know I would have appreciated this when I had my losses.

“It’s fantastic that it’s being introduced into a high street retailer too. Sending a card is such an easy thing to do, but it is a gesture that is so valued by the recipient, especially when it’s hard for people to find the right words.”

*  We are not forgetting the wonderful pregnancy loss cards designed by MRM London and produced and sold by Postmark in 2019-20, at no cost to the Miscarriage Association.  Their ambition was always for cards like theirs to be seen in every card shop in the country and they gave us and the Card Factory their blessing to base this first card on one of theirs.  We are so grateful for their inspiration and generosity.
