George walked 40 miles in June for Miles that Matter
George walked 40 miles in June for Miles that Matter. He told us his story here:
Through every miscarriage, I have found that sharing my experience of being there for my wife through those heart-breaking times has helped me to cope.
My wife and I have been through pregnancy loss four times and when we saw that this year’s theme from Miles That Matter was around the number four, I felt it was very important to take part.
My first step towards fundraising was thinking of a goal that was hard enough to keep me focused on it but possible so that I didn’t let my sponsors down. When I read that another possible theme for this years Miles that matter was 40 my mind was made up. I would walk 40 miles in the month of June. Having a 9-5 desk job finding time to walk over 13,400 steps per day was going to be tough and led to some late evening walks when my step count was stubbornly sat around 7000 at 9pm.
Through every miscarriage, I have found that sharing my experience of being there for my wife through those heart-breaking times has helped me to cope. My friends’ family’s and colleagues’ support has never wavered. Even so, I still found the prospect of asking this support network for sponsorship daunting. There was no need to fear asking for sponsorship. The same support network who had always been there for me showed such incredible generosity.
Seeing the backing on my just giving page put the pressure on to really motivate me to complete the challenge. I am so grateful to everyone who donated and feel like I have achieved something worth celebrating.
