Jess took part in Miles that Matter in June 2023
Jess, a medical assistant in the Royal Navy, organised a 4km Base Walk to Coffee and Cake event at HMS Raleigh for Miles that Matter 2023.
I feel very strongly about raising awareness of miscarriage in the military, hopefully giving people a space to chat, especially partners, with the military still being a predominantly a male environment.
On the 26th June, Jess and a group of colleagues, civilian and military set off on our ‘4Km Base Walk to Coffee and Cake’ around HMS Raleigh, exploring the grassy paths around the establishment before finishing up in our new staff chill out area to enjoy donated cakes, fresh coffee and an opportunity to chat, view resources and share our experiences.
Jess told us: ” I am a Medical Assistant in the Royal Navy working at HMS Raleigh Medical Centre and following a pregnancy loss myself I feel very strongly about raising awareness in the military, hopefully giving people a space to chat, especially partners, with the military still being a predominantly a male environment, but also raise awareness and encourage supportive conversation among line managers and divisional officers who may come across an employee experiencing miscarriage.”
Jess and her team raised over £300 and felt that her Miles that Matter event helped to break down some barriers, and signposted people to our services, and very much enjoyed raising some cash for the M.A!
